Equality, diversity, and inclusion is at the heart of the Bio-Boost iDLA and we employ a range of approaches and mechanisms to tackle inequalities in the PGR recruitment, research, and training journey.
At the University of York, both the Departments of Biology and Chemistry have held Athena Swan Gold Awards since 2007 and 2014 respectively and the Department of Environment and Geography has Silver Award. The School of Engineering at Newcastle University was awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award in 2024.
The Recruitment Process
Bio-Boost iDLA aims to attract and recruit students with the best talent, irrespective of their background, and align them to projects, training activities and working environments that are fully inclusive.
As part of our application process Bio-Boost will
Support candidates throughout the application process by providing clear and easy-to-use guidance that provide all candidates with an equitable experience.
Remove personal characteristics from all application forms to minimise bias when shortlisting candidates for interview.
Use a structure-based interview and selection processes that minimise bias and use transparent and comparable criteria to evaluate competencies and lived-experiences as well as academic excellence.
Student Experience
Throughout a students PhD journey Bio-Boost will employ a range of approaches & mechanisms to support students with addition needs including;
Facilitating flexible working arrangements, including part-time working.
Working with students to address individual needs.
